[1] Greetings.

Hi All:
Today we start a new series in Business Tips called
"Open-To-Buy." If you are a retailer, you can't live without
open-to-buy. It is a logical way to manage your inventory and
generate more profits, while adequately servicing customers.
I couldn't believe this latest find - Bar Code Printer Pro software
that produces all types of barcode labels (EAN, UPC, Code 39, Code
128, Codabar, Interleaved 2 of 5 bar codes... and more) on standard
Avery labels. And it only costs $12.75 (yes, twelve dollars and 75
cents)! I have never seen anything like this. A must have for your
store. Check it out in Unique Products..
Through the first half of 2006, the watch and jewelry market has been
on a tear. The government's Bureau of Economic Analysis predicts
consumer sales of jewelry and watches to top out at $62.6 billion by
year's end, that would be a 6.3 percent increase over previous year.
List member Pam Danziger is about to undertake a new study. Check it
out in member posts.
Now, let's get to everything for the retailer.
Sincerely
George Matyjewicz, PhD

[3] Business Tips - How to Use Open-To-Buy in Retailing
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Open-To-Buy is really an easy concept to understand, and one that all
retailers should use if you want to improve your bottom line. I could
never understand why it was called the Open-To-Buy. Rather I think it
should be the Open-To-Receive, as you are calculating how much
merchandise you can receive based on inventory levels and sales for a period.
Every retailer needs to use Open-To-Buy. The small retailer cannot
afford any mistakes because his sales volume and cash flow are
critical. The large retailer needs it due to his very size, which
makes planning and control all the more critical. Open-To-Buy
planning will help retailers do a better job of buying (which helps
increase sales, reduce markdowns, increase gross profit and increase
inventory turn rate).
... much more here.... http://etailersdigest.com/etd/etd1015.htm#Tips...
Next we will discuss why you should use Open-To-Buy and then how to
use it. Open-To-Buy is really easy to do, and is one of those
must-do things in retailing.

Jewelry stores are also reporting strong sales through the first half
of 2006, with jewelry retailers' sales growing 8.3 percent over 2005
mid-year results to reach $14.7 billion from January to June 2006.
All the while, the sales results of two of the nation's leading
retail jewelers....
