  [1] Greetings.
==================================================================
Hi All:

We have an early issue this week. I need to go to Houston on a personal
matter. So, I thought I would get tomorrow's issue out early.

As you know, when registering for ETD, we ask you to tell us what you would
like to see in the digest. We all need help at one time or another. And
the remarkable resources we have on E-Tailer's Digest is a benefit to us
all. Well, today we have some comments from new list members who need help
in technology, buying and marketing. Look at them, and see what you can offer.

The ongoing sales tax issue spurred another request by a list member - what
will the rates be for the new sales tax. Anybody know?

While Wal-Mart is backing off on inventory tracking using RFID, list member
Mark Riffey states they are only stopping the RFID on the shelves. Vendors
are going to be required to include RFID when delivering goods to Wal-Mart.

Now, let's get to everything for the retailer.

Sincerely

Some opinions on software and online episodic marketing. Looking to get
some ideas on contest management(from the vendor side not entrant) software
and to maybe discuss the values of developing an online

  [5] Sales tax rates

I've followed with interest the discussion in your newsletter about the
legislation coming in the not-to-distant future that will require internet
businesses to collect sales taxes from every jurisdiction in the United States.

Did I miss catching the reference to where to go online to get an
electronic listing of all the tax rates according to their FIPS codes? What
does this cost, how often is it updated?

Wal-Mart is backing off on inventory tracking using RFID.

Only on the shelf (the Gillette project) and only for right now, it seems.
They are still requiring vendors to RFID boxes/pallets by 2005 and they are
still proceeding with their warehouse RFID project. Apparently they figure
there is more money to be saved in their warehouses initially, not to
mention its a more controlled environment for a rollout of a new technology.
